Prisoners In Iraq
EDM number 298 in 1997-98, proposed by Maria Fyfe on 24/07/1997.
That this House calls upon Her Majesty's Government to make strenuous representations to President Saddam Hussein and the Government of Iraq to provide information on, to release forthwith and to enable the reunion with their families of some 909 Iraqi citizens, 604 Kuwaiti citizens and any other prisoners held without trial in Iraq; notes that such action by the Government of Iraq would assist in bringing about procedures to normalise relations between our and other governments and the Government of Iraq, thereby facilitating the ending of United Nations sanctions; and calls upon Her Majesty's Government to make strenuous representations to the United Nations' Security Council to adopt a new resolution, empowering United Nations human rights monitors to visit and inspect all prisons and other places of detention in Iraq, as was called for by the International Conference on Kuwaiti Prisoners of War, held in London on 12th and 13th March 1996.
This motion has been signed by a total of 23 MPs.
