Compulsory Fire Sprinkler Systems For New Supermarkets And Superstores
EDM number 267 in 1997-98, proposed by Tess Kingham on 17/07/1997.
That this House notes that at present it is not compulsory to install fire sprinkler systems in new single-storey supermarkets and superstores; regrets that fire-fighters in Gloucester were put at risk when tackling superstore fires in 1996 where no sprinklers were installed; regrets the loss of life to fire-fighters in other similar fires over past years; and calls upon the Government to consider making the installation of fire sprinkler systems compulsory for all new single-story supermarket and superstore buildings of over 2,000 square metres floor area.
