Victims Of Strip Searching
EDM number 259 in 1997-98, proposed by Lynne Jones on 16/07/1997.
That this House is deeply concerned by psychiatric evidence highlighting the trauma, degradation and humiliation suffered by victims of strip searching; contends that poor regulation of strip searching leaves those subjected to searches vulnerable to abuse, and those conducting searches exposed to false allegations of malpractice; condemns the current inadequate monitoring of strip searching; calls for the introduction of systematic recording by all the relevant Government agencies of all incidences of strip searching; and recommends a complete review of strip searching practices in the light of technological advances in surveillance equipment and electronic metal detectors.
