Advances In Genetics Science

EDM number 249 in 1997-98, proposed by Lynne Jones on 14/07/1997.

That this House applauds the rapid advances in genetic science and the progress being achieved in the battle to treat serious diseases; also notes that biotechnology will be one of the key job-creating industries in the next century but believes that the public must have confidence that animal welfare and other moral considerations that arise as a result of advances in scientific knowledge are addressed and resolved; commends the Third Report of the Science and Technology Committee (HC 41, Session 1994-5) on Human Genetics; The Science and its Consequences; and calls on the Preisdent of the Board of Trade to ensure that its recommendations on the patenting of DNA are incorporated into European Patent Law.

This motion has been signed by a total of 7 MPs.
