Road Deaths
EDM number 242 in 1997-98, proposed by Liz Blackman on 14/07/1997.
That this House acknowledges the fact that the chance of death of someone on the roads is 1 in 125 and the chance of winning ú10 on the National Lottery is 1 in 53, and that 90 per cent. of crashes on the roads are caused by human error and, therefore, that many of the 3,500 deaths that occur on our roads annually could be prevented; and, to this end calls on the Government to be tough on road crime and to start implementing the widely endorsed recommendation of the road safety group, Brake, and many support organisations, that the Home Office make road policing a core policy duty.
This motion has been signed by a total of 29 MPs.
