Assistance For Those Wishing To Give Up Smoking
EDM number 23 in 1997-98, proposed by John Austin on 15/05/1997.
That this House recognises that many smokers are aware of the dangers to their health and the danger to the health of others through smoking; notes that many of those addicted to tobacco wish to give up or reduce their habit; welcomes the Department of Health's support for programmes helping people to give up or reduce smoking; believes that one way of achieving this, and one which is welcomed by many smokers, is to reduce the number of places where smoking is permitted; and believes that the various departments and committees concerned with administration of the Palace of Westminster could make a great contribution by banning smoking within the Palace, with the possible exception of a limited number of designated exempted areas.
