Mutual Building Societies

EDM number 179 in 1997-98, proposed by Andrew Stunell on 26/06/1997.

That this House believes that there are real and substantial benefits to the economy, to small savers, and to low-income borrowers in the preservation of a strong building society industry based firmly on the principle of mutuality; commends the determination of the Nationwide Building Society to retain its mutual status; and urges the Government to offer every encouragement to the mutual society sector of the savings and banking industry.

This motion has been signed by a total of 62 MPs, 1 of these signatures have been withdrawn.
