Conduct Of The Paymaster General (No. 2)
EDM number 1774 in 1997-98, proposed by Michael Spicer on 18/11/1998.
That this House notes that the Paymaster General has been strongly censured by the Standards and Privileges Committee; considers that the proposed punishment is lenient compared to that imposed for a similar shortcoming involving less money in the case of the honourable Member for Liverpool, West Derby, a backbench honourable Member; further notes the Neill Committee's guidance that 'holders of public office have a duty to take steps to declare any private interests' and the Prime Minister's defence of the Paymaster General's behaviour at Prime Minister's Questions on 17th December 1997; and urges the Paymaster General to resign.
