Compensation Scheme For Coal Miners And Widows
EDM number 1760 in 1997-98, proposed by Michael Clapham on 12/11/1998.
That this House notes, following a meeting between honourable Members from former coalfield communities and the Minister for Energy on Wednesday 11 November, that the Government has earmarked funds and directed the lawyers involved in the case to overcome, as soon as possible, the remaining obstacles preventing an agreed compensation scheme which can be endorsed by the court for former coal miners suffering from chronic bronchitis and emphysema, and the widows of miners in cases where the disease has contributed to their late husband's death.
This motion has been signed by a total of 34 MPs.
