Free Education

EDM number 1735 in 1997-98, proposed by Tony Benn on 04/11/1998.

That this House, recognising that knowledge is the one natural resource available to humanity that is growing and not depleting with the passage of the years and believing that the education of each person is of benefit to the whole community, urges Her Majesty's Government to re-introduce the principle that education throughout life should be funded by the community and not by tuition fees and expenses paid for by students.

This motion has been signed by a total of 18 MPs.
