Israeli-Palestine Peace Accord
EDM number 1702 in 1997-98, proposed by Ivor Caplin on 27/10/1998.
That this House welcomes the Peace Accord reached at the Wye Plantation, Maryland in the United States of America; applauds the diligence and determination of President Clinton in bringing forward rapprochement by acting as a honest broker and actively involving the United States in the implementation of the agreement; appreciated the efforts of King Hussein in reminding both Prime Minister Netanyahu and Chairman Arafat of the supreme and monumental opportunity that the Oslo process could mean for generations of Israelis and Palestinians; reminds both Israel and the Palestinians of the importance of creating a real 'people to people' peace with joint initiatives encouraging all the peoples of the region to recognise peaceful co-existence as the only sustainable future which benefits a land of such history and religious significance; and calls upon Her Majesty's Government both bilaterally and through the EU to provide such assistance as is necessary to seal the final agreements.
