Employment Service And The New Deal

EDM number 1686 in 1997-98, proposed by Tom Levitt on 22/10/1998.

That this House congratulates the staff of the Employment Service for the positive way in which they have approached the New Deal, in creating a genuinely personal service aimed in preparing both employers and unemployed people for the best possible working relationships; notes that many thousands of young people have now passed through the gateway into employment, training, education or other useful experience because of the enhancement provided by the gateway; looks forward to similar successes as the New Deal approach is extended to other groups of unemployed people; and believes that the New Deal now represents a model which other elements of the Employment Service and other government and public services would do well to note.
