Coastguard Stations

EDM number 1685 in 1997-98, proposed by James Wallace on 22/10/1998.

That this House welcomes the inquiry by the Transport Sub-committee of the Environment, Transport and Regional Affairs Committee, into the work of the Marine and Coastguard Agency; notes that the Sub-committee will investigate what account is being taken of local circumstances and knowledge in the development of a strategy for the Coastguard Service; believes that local knowledge often plays a primary role in search and rescue activity; and therefore calls on the Government to suspend its decision to shut four coastguard stations at least until such time that the Sub-committee's conclusions can be considered.

This motion has been signed by a total of 18 MPs.
