Nurses In The Health Service
EDM number 1653 in 1997-98, proposed by Kerry Pollard on 19/10/1998.
That this House acknowledges the tremendous contribution that nurses have made to the NHS since its creation over 50 years ago; notes that the NHS is facing its worst nurse shortage for a quarter of a century with over 8,000 nurse vacancies and 8 out of 10 trusts reporting problems recruiting nurses; recognises that the Government's plans to modernise the NHS and cut waiting lists cannot be achieved without adequate nursing staff; and urges the Government to bear these facts in mind when deciding on the pay award for nurses at the outcome of the Pay Review deliberations.
This motion has been signed by a total of 103 MPs, 4 of these signatures have been withdrawn.
