CHILD MIGRANTS' TRUST AND THE NOTTINGHAM EVENING POST

EDM number 1641 in 1997-98, proposed by John Austin on 30/07/1998.

That this House deplores the headline in the Nottingham Evening Post of 30th July regarding the Child Migrants' Trust; believes that both the headline and the story about the Health Committee Report on the Welfare of Former British Child Migrants give a wholly false picture of the Select Committee's Report; is concerned that selective reporting of statements made to the Committee detracts from the main thrust of the Report, which outlines the injustice done to and the pain and suffering of those child migrants and the positive recommendations in the Report; places on record the fact that the Select Committee concluded that the Child Migrants' Trust had done invaluable work in tracing families and providing counselling, that its work should be expanded and that the Government should make available sufficient funds for it to carry out this work; and calls upon the Editor of the Nottingham Evening Post to issue and publish an immediate apology to the Child Migrants' Trust.
