Wallace And Gromit

EDM number 1629 in 1997-98, proposed by Lindsay Hoyle on 29/07/1998.

That this House is appalled that the Northern accents of the characters Wallace and Gromit are to be changed to clipped 'Oxford' accents in order to teach English to foreign students; takes this action as an insult to all those in the North and to those people with Northern accents; does not see any reason why their accents should be altered in view of the fact that the animation won two Oscars with their original Northern accents; and calls upon those responsible to reverse this decision in order to maintain the unique Northern character which has made them so popular in the United Kingdom and the world.

This motion has been signed by a total of 23 MPs.
