Employment Service In North East Derbyshire (No. 2)
EDM number 1611 in 1997-98, proposed by Harry Barnes on 27/07/1998.
That this House notes that the Employment Service lists 94 jobcentres for registered claimants as operating throughout its East Midlands and Eastern Region; is concerned that the Dronfield jobcentre in North East Derbyshire is to be closed on 4th September and that the neighbouring Eckington jobcentre is under consideration for closure on 31st October; notes that these are the only two jobcentres in the region facing closure, although 11 centres cater for fewer claimants that Dronfield and 24 centres have fewer claimants than Eckington; also notes that the combined number of claimants for these neighbouring centres is 765 and there are currently 47 jobcentres in the region dealing with fewer claimants; and believes that the needs of the unemployed and the advancement of the Government's New Deal programme requires the maintenance of all present jobcentres, including those in North East Derbyshire.
