Greater Manchester Orbital Motorway

EDM number 161 in 1997-98, proposed by Graham Stringer on 24/06/1997.

That this House believes the Greater Manchester orbital motorway should be completed as soon as possible by letting contract 3 for the M66 Denton to Middleton section; further believes that if the motorway is not completed, ú50 million of public money will have been wasted on an aqueduct, several bridges and many link roads without realising the economic benefits associated with the motorway's completion in Blackley, East Manchester and Tameside; and notes that other benefits predicted after the completion of the motorway box are a reduction of six fatal, 90 serious and 340 minor road accidents per year, the reduction in through traffic using Manchester city centre and other urban roads, the relief of pressure on the M62/63 motorway section and the easier introduction of bus priority schemes.
