Working Time Regulations

EDM number 1601 in 1997-98, proposed by David Chidgey on 23/07/1998.

That this House notes that the draft Working Time Regulations, when published, were unclear on many points; is concerned that the final regulations, constituting important and controversial legislation, are to be rushed through Parliament with no opportunity for honourable Members to consider them before the deadline for their implementation on 1st October or for businesses to properly prepare themselves for the new arrangements; notes that the Statutory Instrument facility was originally introduced to speed up parliamentary processes when considering legislation of a non-controversial nature; and calls on the Government to properly clarify the final regulations and schedule parliamentary time before the summer recess so that these important issues can be properly considered and the necessary clarifications provided.

This motion has been signed by a total of 22 MPs.
