Sales Of Travel Cards By Travel West Midlands

EDM number 1566 in 1997-98, proposed by Roger Godsiff on 16/07/1998.

That this House notes that the present travel card sales policy of Travel West Midlands which is to keep agencies one mile apart, denies Lucky Star Newsagents, Small Heath, and all others in a similar situation, the facility of selling travel cards; believes that this policy does not constitute either sensible, commercial or public transport policy; that its present operation only artificially restricts rather than encourages the sales of travel cards and also creates unnecessary and serious inconvenience to local residents, particularly the elderly who appreciate a one stop service; believes that Travel West Midlands are misguided in their commercial judgement to apply a sales policy which mirrors the sale of National Lottery tickets; and calls on the Executive Board of Travel West Midlands to authorise a change of policy as a matter of urgency.
