Protection For Areas Of Outstanding Natural Beauty In England And Wales

EDM number 1559 in 1997-98, proposed by Martin Caton on 15/07/1998.

That this House recognises the 41 AONBs in England and Wales, together with the national parks, comprise countryside of the greatest conservation importance; acknowledges, however, that this high quality environment in many areas of outstanding natural beauty is threatened by inadequate management provision; in this respect, supports the analysis and recommendations of the Countryside Commission and the new AONB Association; and, therefore, urges the Government to give local authorities statutory duties for AONBs, including a legal requirement to produce management plans, as is the case with national parks at present.

This motion has been signed by a total of 62 MPs.
