Penalties For Dangerous Parking
EDM number 1557 in 1997-98, proposed by Norman Baker on 15/07/1998.
That this House notes with concern the considerable dangers that can be created by thoughtless parking; notes in particular the recent occurrence in Lewes when an ambulance was unable for 20 minutes to reach 19 month old Harry Welch when he had stopped breathing and turned blue, because of inconsiderate parking; further notes that when paramedics tried to bump the offending cars out of the way they were met with abuse from the owners; and calls on the Government to increase substantially the ú20 fine that can be imposed by the police on those who park in a selfish and dangerous manner.
