PROFESSOR LOWRY'S INCARCERATION IN PORTUGAL
EDM number 1510 in 1997-98, proposed by Michael Clapham on 02/07/1998.
That this House is extremely concerned about the physical and emotional wellbeing of Professor David Lowry who has been imprisoned in a Portuguese jail for 15 months and refused bail on five occasions by the authorities, despite the fact that he has offered a surety, thus denying him a settled environment in which he can obtain medical assistance and also concentrate on the prosecution documents in his case, which it is alleged by his legal advisers have been prepared in an unprofessional way and have so far revealed no less than three separate David Lowrys; and calls on the Portuguese authorities to act with fairness and compassion and grant him house arrest.
This motion has been signed by a total of 40 MPs, 1 of these signatures have been withdrawn.
