Preferential Access To Eu For Products Of Illegal Israeli Settlements
EDM number 1464 in 1997-98, proposed by Phyllis Starkey on 24/06/1998.
That this House supports the recent report by the European Commission drawing attention to the need for Israel to abide by the rules of origin for exports to the EU as set down in the Israel-EU Association Agreement; considers products for exports produced in the illegal settlements in the West Bank and Gaza, the Golan Heights and in occupied East Jerusalem as ineligible for preferential access to the EU; believes that the European Commission should not consider a regional cumulation system until Israel abides by the rules of origin; supports the action currently being considered by the EU to correct these violations of the rules of origin by the Israeli authorities; and believes that it will result in a much needed boost to the ailing Palestinian export trade.
