Yemen (No. 2)

EDM number 1441 in 1997-98, proposed by Jeremy Corbyn on 16/06/1998.

That this House is deeply concerned about increasing violence in the Republic of Yemen, particularly recent incidents in the provinces of Dhala, Mukalla, Abyan and other places; notes that violence, hostage taking, bombings and increasing poverty will only bring further instability and deteriorating economic conditions to the country; appeals to the President to initiate a process for political dialogue with peaceful, popular and democratic opposition groups in order that a comprehensive national reconciliation can be achieved; urges him to set up a balanced political structure which includes systems of local government and an independent judiciary; and further urges him to recognise that only through these measures will peace, stability and national unity in the Republic of Yemen be attained.

This motion has been signed by a total of 18 MPs.
