Conduct Of The Secretary Of State For Culture, Media And Sport
EDM number 1427 in 1997-98, proposed by Bowen Wells on 11/06/1998.
That this House endorses the view of the Select Committee for Culture, Media and Sport that the Secretary of State for Culture Media and Sport has failed completely to focus the efforts of his Department on the promotion of tourism and is damaging British businesses and British jobs as a result; notes that his approach to the arts and other creative industries has been characterised by a concentration on the superficial and trivial; further notes that he has failed to address the serious policy issues facing his Department and failed to persuade his Cabinet colleagues of their importance; and calls on him to change the priorities of his Department so that they better suit its areas of responsibility.
