Genetically Modified Foods

EDM number 1423 in 1997-98, proposed by Alan Simpson on 10/06/1998.

That this House welcomes the comments of His Royal Highness Prince Charles, along with those of environmentalists and consumers, in warning of the dangers of genetically modified foods; views with suspicion the ú1m advertising campaign by Monsanto promoting uncritical acceptance of its GM products; and calls on the Government to institute a moratorium on all field trials of GM crops, compulsory labelling of all goods which are unable to demonstrate they are entirely free of GM products and a ban on all GM crop and food imports.
