ROYAL SOCIETY OF CHEMISTRY'S PARLIAMENTARY LINKS DAY

That this House congratulates The Royal Society of Chemistry on holding its Parliamentary Links Day at the House on Tuesday 24 June 1997 and on its continuing commitment to serve the public interest by seeking to improve the scientific understanding of honourable Members; notes that the Society's pioneering Parliamentary Link Scheme, which provides information and briefing on chemistry-related scientific subjects, is open to Right honourable and honourable Members on all sides of the House; further notes the extensive educational activity of the Society to promote high quality chemistry teaching and education at all levels from primary, through secondary to university education in the United Kingdom; applauds the initiative of the Society and the constructive role it plays in the technology foresight process; welcomes the crucial link between the core science of chemistry and the United Kingdom's scientific research base; notes that this year's Parliamentary Links Day will highlight exciting new developments of great potential benefit to health, the environment and the economy; and notes the central role that chemistry plays in wealth creation and the quality of life.
