Disruption And Distress At Majorca Airport

EDM number 1369 in 1997-98, proposed by Joseph Ashton on 01/06/1998.

That this House expresses its sympathy for the thousands of British passengers stranded in Majorca over the weekend of 29th-30th May on tours owned or operated by Thomas Cook, Sunworld, Airworld, Thomson, Portland Direct, Unijet, Futura, AIH and others, with major discomfort of up to 21 hours for babies, nursing mothers, pensioners and the disabled, who were locked in departure lounges; understands the fear and anger of those staging sit-down demonstrations, and being arrested, often against the deliberate false promises of take-off times by holiday firm representatives; and advises the British public not to travel to Majorca with any of the above companies until the number of flights has been drastically reduced and passengers have cast-iron guarantees that they will be returned to the same airport they departed from.

This motion has been signed by a total of 5 MPs.
