Conduct Of The Leader Of The Opposition And The European Single Currency
EDM number 1361 in 1997-98, proposed by Bill Rammell on 21/05/1998.
That this House expresses its belief that, whether or not Britain joins the single currency, it is essential for Britain's economic interest that the single-currency is launched successfully; regrets the actions of any honourable Member who mis-represents the nature of EMU in order to undermine the single currency; condemns the recent statement by the Leader of the Opposition that the single currency could lead to a Yugoslavian style war situation; further believes that such an inflammatory statement is inaccurate, irresponsible and, by attempting to destabilise the single currency, actually undermines Britain's economic interests; and calls on him to pay more attention to the advice of the Right honourable Members for Henley and Rushcliffe and the honourable Member for Esher and Walton and to the British public as a whole.
