Colchester United And Torquay United At Wembley

EDM number 1354 in 1997-98, proposed by Bob Russell on 20/05/1998.

That this House, while congratulating Colchester United and Torquay United on reaching the Third Division play-off final at Wembley on 22 May, deplores the inconsiderate attitude of the Nationwide Football League and the Football Association in forcing the clubs to play on the Friday evening of a bank holiday weekend instead of the Saturday afternoon as expected; notes this will mean thousands of supporters will not be able to attend this important match; calls on the football authorities to compensate the clubs for the loss of income which they will now suffer and to apologise to supporters for the inconsideration shown to them; and further notes that the shoddy attitude of the Football League and Football Association is typical of the indifference shown to the smaller clubs.
