Wiltshire County Council

EDM number 1353 in 1997-98, proposed by James Gray on 20/05/1998.

That this House congratulates the Conservative Party on taking control of Wiltshire County Council on Tuesday, 19 May as a result of the by-election victory in Trowbridge; wishes the alliance of the Conservative group and Councillor Newbury every success as they repair the damage done to the county over the last five years by the previous Lib/Lab administration; welcomes the announcements from the new Conservative administration of the reversal of the deplorable Lib/Lab cut in library opening hours, the review of the winter gritting programme which had been cut so badly by the Lib/Lab pact, the reversal of the Lib/Lab policy of spending nothing on road safety measures and the beginning of the reversal of the 50 per cent Lib/Lab cut in road maintenance; applauds the Conservative group on its refreshing business-like approach to running Wiltshire; and commends the Conservative approach to local government to electors across the United Kingdom.

This motion has been signed by a total of 5 MPs.
