Renaming Of Bank Holidays
EDM number 1349 in 1997-98, proposed by Angela E Smith on 19/05/1998.
That this House welcomes the Co-operative Bank's campaign to rename bank holidays as public holidays; believes that bank holidays are a throwback to the past when the whole banking system was closed down for the day; and urges the Government to support the renaming of the two bank holidays in May and the one in August to express Britain's modern values as it approaches the 21st century.
