Arms Dealing By The Conservative Government And Possible Use Against British Servicemen
EDM number 1320 in 1997-98, proposed by David Winnick on 13/05/1998.
That this House notes the current interest by the Conservative Opposition in arms dealing abroad; notes that apart from the arms for Iraq scandal, the previous administration licensed arms to the junta in Argentina right up to the invasion of the Falklands; further notes that in Hansard (Lords) 29 March 1983, column 1455, the then Secretary of State for Trade stated that shipments under specific licences of supplies to Argentina for military use amounted to about ú1.1 million in March 1982 alone, and that they included arms and ammunition, military radio equipment, computers and spares for various types of military equipment; and wonders how many of these approved arms exports were used against British servicemen at the time.
