Chancellor Of The Duchy Of Lancaster (No. 2)

EDM number 1306 in 1997-98, proposed by Peter Bradley on 11/05/1998.

That this House congratulates the Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster on his role in bringing forward the Government's groundbreaking Freedom of Information White Paper and for his contribution to a radical programme of constitutional change; notes that of 50 people questioned in the Wrekin constituency none could describe the function of the Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster; and urges the Government to convey its commitment to good, open and accountable governance by relieving the Chancellor of the Duchy of his archaic titles and duties and awarding him a portfolio as Minister for Public Service which would be meaningful and relevant to the people of a modern Britain.

This motion has been signed by a total of 21 MPs.
