Conduct Of Lord Nimmo Smith

EDM number 130 in 1997-98, proposed by Norman A Godman on 17/06/1997.

That this House deplores the surprisingly lenient sentence of 240 hours of community service imposed by Lord Nimmo Smith at the High Court in Greenock, on Monday 16th June on a man found guilty of a most serious assault with a knife on a person whose life would have been lost but for the skills of the hospital team which operated upon him; believes that those convicted of violent crimes should receive condign punishment; and calls upon the Lord Advocate to give careful consideration to the lodging of an appeal against the aforesaid judgement.

This motion has been signed by a total of 20 MPs, 1 of these signatures have been withdrawn.
