St Helena

EDM number 13 in 1997-98, proposed by Robert Key on 14/05/1997.

That this House notes the request of the elected members of the St. Helena Legislative Council requesting the restoration as a matter of urgency of full rights of British Citizenship to the inhabitants of St. Helena; welcomes recent initiatives to recruit islanders to HM Forces; recognises that improved communications with the island and wider educational and economic opportunities are essential; and urges Her Majesty's Government to give early consideration to the plight of the Island of St. Helena whose citizens have been British since 1659.
