FORMER POW's AND INTERNEES

EDM number 1282 in 1997-98, proposed by Mark Oaten on 30/04/1998.

That this House recognises the urgent need for Her Majesty's Government to address the issues of compensation and apology for former British prisoners of war and civilian internees in the Far East, particularly in light of new evidence, which suggests that the British Government knew that it could have asked for more compensation from Japan; and furthermore hopes that Her Majesty's Government will encourage the Japanese Government to empower the Emperor to make a full and public apology before he visits the United Kingdom at the end of May.

This motion has been signed by a total of 22 MPs.
