Hillingdon Hospital Strikers

EDM number 1272 in 1997-98, proposed by Alan Keen on 29/04/1998.

That this House congratulates the Hillingdon Hospital strikers on their two and a half year campaign that has successfully forced Pall Mall, the previous contractors at the hospital, to admit unfair dismissal in their dispute; recognises and applauds the dignity with which the strikers conducted their action and wishes them well at the new industrial tribunal in May; and welcomes the new Labour Government's fresh approach to industrial relations, with the incorporation of the EU Social Chapter and the establishment of a statutory minimum wage, that will help avert the necessity for such action to secure protection for the low paid in future.
