Macclesfield Town Football Club (No. 2)

EDM number 1267 in 1997-98, proposed by Nicholas Winterton on 29/04/1998.

That this House congratulates Macclesfield Town Football Club on gaining promotion to Nationwide League Division II following a hard fought match against Chester City Football Club which the Blues won 3-2 before the largest ever crown, which behaved impeccably, at the Moss Rose ground; notes that this latest success follows their winning the GM Vauxhall Conference in the 1994-95 season, the winning of the FA Umbro Trophy at Wembly in the 1995-96 season, and the GM Vauxhall Conference in the 1996-97 season; further notes that they are the only team to remain undefeated at home in the whole league throughout the season; believes that this is an outstanding record of achievement; and congratulates on their success, Manager, Sammy McIlroy, all the players, the Chairman, Alan Cash, and the Directors of the club as well as acknowledging the support given to the team by Macclesfield Borough Council, the main sponsors, Bodycote International plc and Zeneca plc, and all the supporters of the Silkmen.
