Centenarians

That this House congratulates DGAA Homelife on commissioning and publishing an interview study with 100 centenarians living throughout the United Kingdom; believes that the study will provide essential information that will influence future thinking and policy making on housing, health needs and provision of care for this rapidly growing age sector; notes that the number of centenarians has grown from 271 in 1951,the year before Her Majesty the Queen came to the throne, to 4,400 in 1991 and 8,000 today; recognises that the numbers are projected to rise further to 30,000 by the year 2030; and congratulates DGAA Homelife, founded as the Distressed Gentlefolk's Aid Association in Queen Victoria's Diamond Jubilee year of 1897, on reaching its own 100th birthday this year.
