Intra-Kashmiri Dialogue

EDM number 1196 in 1997-98, proposed by Roger Godsiff on 02/04/1998.

That this House welcomes the joint initiative taken by the All Party Kashmir Group, the Parliamentary Human Rights Group and the Friends of Kashmir in convening a private gathering in London on 29th May of Kashmiris from both sides of the Line of Control, geographically representative of all areas of the State of Jammu and Kashmir and all shades of political opinion; notes that such a gathering would be the first of its kind since 1947; believes it would provide an invaluable opportunity for Kashmiris to discuss the methodologies of reaching a solution to the problems of the region which would be acceptable to all parties to the dispute and to the people as a whole; commends the efforts of both the Indian and Pakistani governments and all other groups and individuals in attempting to find a solution to one of the world's longest running disputes.
