Accident In Spain
EDM number 1177 in 1997-98, proposed by Gerry Steinberg on 31/03/1998.
That this House is disgusted and appalled at the way Mrs Winter, who resides in the City of Durham, has been treated by the Spanish authorities after she suffered a horrendous car accident whilst on holiday in Gran Canaria in 1994; notes that, in her pursuit of compensation, legal aid has been granted by the Spanish authorities and a Spanish solicitor has been appointed who has never made any attempt to communicate with either Mrs Winter or her United Kingdom solicitor, whose letters are continually ignored; furthermore notes, that the Spanish Embassy in London has not had the decency or courtesy to reply to letters written to them by the honourable Member for the City of Durham seeking their assistance to expedite the case; and consequently warns future holiday-makers about what they can expect if they are so unfortunate as to have an accidence in Spain.
