BIRMINGHAM CITY COUNCIL'S AWARDS

That this House congratulates the councillors, officers and staff of Birmingham City Council on their triple success in the Local Government Chronicle national awards; is especially pleased that rising standards in schools helped secure the National Council of the Year 1998 award; applauds the enterprise of the Trading Standards Department in winning the Management Team of the Year title; and welcomes the Innovation of the Year Award for the foundation of the University of the First Age which offers new learning opportunities outside normal school hours.
