Conditions Of Sinn Fein Entering Talks

EDM number 99 in 1996-97, proposed by Peter Robinson on 30/10/1996.

That this House no longer believes that a restoration of the fraudulent IRA ceasefire is sufficient to merit Sinn Fein's inclusion in the Northern Ireland talks process; believes that the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland should not invite Sinn Fein to join the negotiations without a permanent ceasefire being demonstrably established; regrets that only the Democratic Unionist Party, the United Kingdom Unionist Party, the Ulster Democratic Party and the Progressive Unionist Party supported the DUP proposal in the talks to re-consider the terms and conditions of Sinn Fein's entry to the negotiations; and urges the Prime Minister to set out publicly what criteria he will apply in determining whether Sinn Fein/IRA have met the terms of the Northern Ireland Entry to Negotiations Act 1996.

This motion has been signed by a total of 5 MPs.
