Industrial Fishing

EDM number 89 in 1996-97, proposed by Bill Walker on 29/10/1996.

That this House considers that the European Commission has ignored its legal obligations under the EU Treaty to take specific conversation measures for the protection of sandeels from industrial fishing; and, noting that under the Treaty, Article 13(2) of Regulation 3094/86 allows the United Kingdom to take action to conserve those species seriously threatened where any delay would result in damage which would be difficult to repair, calls upon Her Majesty's Government to take immediate measures to protect its sandeel stocks.
