Blood Sports

EDM number 720 in 1996-97, proposed by Tony Banks on 20/03/1997.

That this House utterly rejects the misleading statistics issued by the Leave Country Sports Alone group which claims that 182,000 jobs would be lost if a future Labour government presided over the abolition of hunting with hounds; notes the way the group has consistently sought to present a distorted picture by incorporating into its job loss claim all those whose livelihoods would at worst be marginally affected by such a ban; believes that fewer than 1,000 jobs would be under threat should a ban on hunting with hounds be introduced; and calls upon the supporters of the Leave Country Sports Alone group to stop lying to the British public who wish to see their repellent activities banned as soon as possible.
