Education Budgets
EDM number 666 in 1996-97, proposed by Eddie McGrady on 17/03/1997.
That this House is totally opposed to cuts in funding in education in Northern Ireland based solely on the transfer of funds to the law and order budget, believing that such financial measures will disadvantage many children and detract from the quality of education provision, in that schools will be unable to fulfil their statutory and legal duties of delivering the curriculum; and calls on the Department of Education for Northern Ireland to ensure that the budgets for schools are uplifted in line with the increase of 4.4 per cent. budgeted for the 1997-98 financial year for schools in England and Wales.
This motion has been signed by a total of 11 MPs.
