Operation Black Vote

EDM number 637 in 1996-97, proposed by Piara S Khabra on 11/03/1997.

That this House notes the problem of under-registration amongst the black community throughout the United Kingdom and the findings in July 1996 that only 16 per cent. of black youths are likely to vote at the next election; recognises the importance of promoting voting and voter registration from all sections of society in order to ensure the legitimacy of Parliament; and fully supports the efforts of Operation Black Vote in encouraging registration and full political participation.
