Rectorship Of Edinburgh University

That this House welcomes the election of John Colquhoun, the Labour nominee, as Lord Rector of Edinburgh University by an overwhelming majority; notes that he is the first professional footballer to be elected as Rector of a Scottish university; believes that he will apply his long-standing Labour and trade union commitment to good effect on behalf of students and staff; congratulates him on making university access for youngsters of all social backgrounds his first priority; and wishes him well in his new position.
